Department of Organic Materials and Fiber Engineering

About the Department

Department of Organic Materials and Fiber Engineering in Chonbuk University was established in 1962, and in 2006, the name of Textile Engineering Department was changed to Textile Material System Engineering Department, and there are 7 professors in the department. The department is divided into textile processing, textile machine, textile high molecule, textile physics, natural textile materials, textile dyes, and industrial textile materials part. The department aims to foster professionals by cooperating organically in terms of education.
In professor Park Byung Ki’s textile processing lab, the research study on dispersion process, cross-link, soil release, soil-resistant, hydrophilic, anti-static, affinity, hardening, water-proof, water release, oil release, anti-flaming, deduction, anti-microorganism, heat accumulating insulation, UV block, shrink-proof, quantity increase, fix, and microcapsule is being carried out; treat the surface of textile assembly or high molecule with radiation or plasma to give functions to the surface.
In professor Lee Duck Lae’s textile machine lab, studies are on the elasticity, tensile strength, thermal, and mechanical behavior of complex materials by adopting fiber reinforced composite and felt per group, and had successful outcome. And, also as a basic organization in the reinforced complex materials, the studies that are meant to improve the characteristics of complex materials, and to increase the mechanical intensity, and through the structure of one felt.
Professor Kim Hwan Chul’s textile high molecule lab analyzes the effects of additives, which increase the melting process of polyvinyl chloride, on rheology, interprets the mixed characteristics of other high molecules, to give the functions. In addition, to differentiate thermal and mechanical property of polyester, many of various functional copolymers are adopted and process research studies are carried out to radiate these.
In professor Kim Hak Yong’s organic and inorganic nano material lab, organic and inorganic materials are electrically radiated to develop various textile materials in nano-level. Especially, studies by using nano textiles are carried out, applying it to the medical field such as artificial blood vessels, artificial kidneys, and dialyzing diaphragm, and to the smart electric electronic material field such as bullet proof vest, military helmet, and industrial filter. The lab is trying for in vitro culture of the cells that have more complex mechanisms by using the tissue cell as the supporting body in cultivation, and this comes from the fabric manufactured by using nano textile filament. Recently, the lab is carrying out the research study on controlling crystallization or cultivating nano textile. This trial is expected to give the basis to manufacturing nano textile that has strong and differentiated performance.
In professor Song Kyung Geun’s natural textile material lab, recycled textile studies on textile material for general use is carried out to use natural textile material as functional high molecular material. Especially, wool keratin is dissolved (liquated) and separated, then mix it with various high molecules (polymer) that are blendable and then radiate or develop the method for single radiation of wool keratin, and to improve and develop the mechanical characterization and use of radiated textile.
In professor Jung Yong Shik’s textile dyes lab, studies on technology development to apply to clothing material, and medical and industrial materials by manufacturing natural chitosan into textiles, the textile manufacturing technology of organic/inorganic hybrid textile that has the fuctions such as hydroxyapatite, magnetite, and barium sulfate, functional PVA using hydro-radiation, development of industrial PVA and PAN textile manufacturing technology are carried out, and complex textile material manufacture for the material that does not let through the radiation. In addition, studies are on microlight wet felt of PCA textile and chitosan textiles other than the paper mulberry textile that uses grassland methods like traditional Korean Hanji.
In professor Gil Myung Sup’s industrial textile material lab, a research study on the industrial textiles is carried out, and industrial textile materials are applied and well used in various traffic, civil, agriculture, life science, electric electronic, military, space development, and earth environment. The lab is studying to develop production technology and material development for textiles that have differentiated performance and high power by applying modern technologies that are represented by 6T (IT, BT, ET, NT, ST, CT).
