Department of Chemical Engineering

About the Department

Department of Chemical Engineering started out as Chemical Engineering major in 1951, produced 3,300 alumni, and contributed to the development of Korean chemical industry. With the trend of departmentalization of studies, Department of Industrial Chemistry was established in 1985, and in 1996, Industrial Chemistry and Chemical Engineering majors were integrated for more balanced education and efficient research studies. From 2002, it was operated as the Department of environment, chemical engineering system which included environmental engineering major.
To cope with the trend and demand of the developed science technology and social changes in the 21st century, student recruitment unit was reformed to be in the Department of Chemical Engineering from 2008, and the engineers who studied energy chemical engineering major, nano-chemical engineering major, and life science and chemical engineering major were to be produced.
Especially, it is expected that the globalized engineer alumni will be contributing to the development of the future society as they get certified internationally.
Currently, Chemical Engineering Department is the best one in Korea, and is in the top 50 in the world; in the academic/research new, renewable energy field.
